Hi Rich

Thank you for these links Rich.

I am really worried about these changes as I'm sure others are too. I honestly don't think I could manage a regular job. I get by now because I am able to do things at my speed when I feel able to do them. If I was forced into a position of being in work at 8am each day and working through 'til say 3pm I'd be absolutely banjaxed! Then I would have to start on all the things I do throughout the day ... cleaning, washing, shopping, meals etc... I feel quite ill at the thought Sad

I've been on long term incapacity since 1989, and DLA. When are these changes going to come about? It probably says but must have missed it!

looks like most will come in 2013 , however it looks like Income support will no longer be paid to Lone parents with a child under 5 as from Jan 2012(they will have to claim JSA and all that goes with it, there are some exceptions) . This was already mentioned in the June 2010 budget , and dates have been splashed about for this already , as October this year was mentioned and also April 2012.

What is worrying is that it appears Council Tax Benefit (which holds an ultimate possibility of going to prison if you do not pay it ) is to be stopped :O

It is also worrying that Vince Cable has recently announced a reform in the Employment Tribunals system which is changing the time you have to have worked for an employer before you can claim unfair dismissal from one year to two years. And an Employer;s charter which stacks the odds in favour of the employer .

See Workplace Dispute Reforms

Also going forward are the Legal aid reforms which will remove any legal aid help for welfare rights , Housing rights, Employment, and Immigration, and all but the most serious Family issues. This not only leaves people vulnerable but will also mean the closure of CAB's and other legal help centres with legal aid contracts :(

See Legal aid Reform

All this on top of DLA reform and the migration of all Incapacity Benefit claimants and a harsher ESA medical , that does not include bending (among other things )

So all in all not a rosey future :(

Thank you so much for all the extra info Rich. You are a star ThumpUp

There will be few people who aren't affected one way or another. It's all very sad that our once highly rated welfare service slips ungracefully into non-existence. I suspect these people who 'organise' our lives may well have bitten off more than they can chew this time. I can picture it all coming down round their red glowing embarrassed ears!!

I always fancied living on Greek island; my dream may yet come to fruition!

Hi

I havent read it as the topic has reached saturation point in the media. I have found the entire argument towards people who are unable to work and long termed unemployed upheld by biased discriminatory and uninformed view points. There is no balance in anything the government is doing. From their attempts to sell off whats left of the country (literally) and the slash and burn of budgets taking away what minimal support offer and expect the people in these harsh economic times to dig deep to donate time and money whilst rolling up the carpet and dismantling the infrastructure. I feel we are still in the time of feudal lords and ruling classes. They are also cutting back on legal advice so we cant fight any of this. Well they better not sack my consultant or I will be chaining myself to no 10! I can only take so much.

Do you think that the younger the politicians and the heartless the nation goes? Or is it me getting older !!

On a serious note, young politicians have not have much issues with their health and may not be able to understand how it feels. I would prefer someone a Prime Minister who had a bit of life experience and hardship. This way they would understand better what it is like to be fighting just to get up in the morning.
